Bedtime Stories for Dogs

Back in 2009, my girl, Reyna, had hip replacement surgery.  It was vital that she stay calm and quiet for six weeks.  As anyone who ever met Reyna can attest, this was a nearly impossible task.

One of my friends was kind enough to give us copies of Leigh Anne Jasheway’s Bedtime Stories for Dogs and Sara Swan Miller’s Three Stories You Can Read to Your Dog.

Bedtime Stories includes eight fairy tales and six nursery rhymes, all rewritten for dogs, of course.  The fairy tales are short, simple, have happy endings, and mention food at least once.  What could be better?

Three Stories are short stories told from the “you did this” perspective, which makes it fun to read out loud to your dog.  They scare away a burglar, bury a bone, and become a wild dog.  Wonderful tales for big, brave dogs!

Reyna was a good girl – as she could be when she felt like humoring me – and she let me read those books to her over and over during her six weeks of post-op recovery.  They hadn’t crossed my mind in a long time, but when I thought about writing a book blog, Bedtime Stories was the first book to pop in my head.  I think I’ll go read them to Kodiak, Jake, and Sassy….

“Finally, a story about German shepherds! Snow White is the best!”

Reyna didn’t think so highly of “Goldilocks and the Three Cats”

Let’s get this started…

So I was sitting on the couch last night, looking up something on my phone (I don’t even remember what), and it suddenly popped into my head that it would be fun to write a book blog.  Because apparently I don’t have enough to occupy my time.  I started doing a little digging on how to get ARCs, and then I decided to sleep on it before making any decisions.

Except I couldn’t sleep.  My brain took the notion and ran with it.  SO MANY IDEAS.  So many books I want to write about.  So many favorites I want to share.

So that’s what I’m going to do.  I’ll write about my favorite books (I’m thinking “Friday Favorites” might become a thing).  I’ll read and review upcoming and new books.  I have a couple of authors I might reach out to for interviews, because that could be fun.  Shoot, I’ll probably throw in the occasional nothing-specific-but-still-book-related stuff.   I’m looking forward to seeing where this takes us.
